Hey everyone,
Yesterday I learned a valuable lesson.
I contacted a good friend of mine and we decided to meet after 3 years without seeing each other. We were teammates in Chadron, NE and he is on his Mormon mission here in São Paulo.
It was way weird to hear him speaking Portuguese (perfectly by the way) since I always had in my mind Blake (his name : P) speaking English. We started off speaking Portuguese.
It didn´t take us long to switch to English. That was when I realized how important it is to keep practicing the language. I have been in Brazil for 13 days, and I didn´t feel my English flowing like it used to. I had to think too much to talk, and it made me feel less confident to let it out.
I know I´m not the smartest person alive (maybe the second?! haha), but I´m not the dumbest (hope not... ) either. I just know that even though I spent the last 5 years of my life speaking English daily, I will have to continuously work on it. Every single day.
With that being said, we should all be happy to be part of this blog. If we are not speaking English, at least we are exercising our reading abilities. We can use this tool in our benefit.
Hope you all enjoyed my wise words (jk haha), and I truly wish you all a great day at work!

Hi, Marco!
ResponderExcluirFirst of all, welcome back to Brazil!
Regarding to your post it´s amazing how our brains are able to forget all the knowledge obtained if it isn´t used. I particulary thought my english was very nice, but specially on Fridays, when it´s english day at work, it´s clear that practice is a keystone to keep developing the language.
Could you give us some advice to start making english more present in our day-to-day?
Tkx! : )
Priscila,
ResponderExcluirThank you so much for your comment.
I am sorry for getting back at you so late.
My advice to keep the English language present in your life is to:
- read the news in English (I read msn.com),
- music (the lyrics will do wonders for your vocabulary, try www.vagalume.uol.com.br. This website is very organized and has the translation for most of the lyrics in case you need to double check a word).
- Post comments on the Blog ;)
- Have a conversation in English anytime you have a chance.
That will definitely keep you thinking in English and exercising your tongue and brain.
P.S.- I´m commenting as anonymous, but it is really me, Marco! haha
